The script is said to center on a 30-something John Connor leading rag tag fugitive humans against the machines in our “future”. I’ve always wondered if the human-less, device-dominated world we saw in Pixar’s CARS was the result of humanity being defeated in John Connor’s war.
The new backers see "T4" as an attempt to reinvent the franchise with new cast and plotlines, ploys that worked for Batman and James Bond, and is being attempted with "The Incredible Hulk," which has Edward Norton as its new star.

So, in theory, TERMINATOR 4 (with a "new cast and plotline") could be deployed as an alternate TERMINATOR 1, because even though it takes place after the events of the existing trilogy, it actually sets the existing trilogy/overall mythos into motion...and could therefore be used as a different kind of launching pad/origin story (i.e. “future war” escapades lead to time travel into their past (our present) to undo the situation in the future, and so forth. Theoretically, of course...
Halcyon's arrangement includes future merchandise and licensing, but has limited impact on Fox/Warner’s SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES TV series.

I think it would be a pretty nifty if they decided to continue along with another movie/story about the actual wars between the cyborgs and the humans; as they are describing above. Forget Arnold and the traveling back in time to kill John. Let's see what happens after the nuclear attack and the battle begins and John Connor has started the revolution.

T3 kinda set up a T4, I thought. Remember when Arnold told John Conner " I killed you" and doesnt Arnold tell him "we will meet again" ??

I'll watch another Terminator movie, but a series and a new cast and ongoing sequels, that might be a little much.

+1, that's all these movies have been about... i want to see this war. Yes T1 and T2 were great movies, T3 was still pretty good for the most part, probably coulda been better if they chose someone different to play John Conner and that chick. But all in all still a decent movie and it def ended with a huge gapeing hole for another film to be made

My friend said he'd like to see the new trilogy change it's focus from John Conner to Kyle Reese. Basically show how Kyle grew up in the future and how he became a solider. That would be interesting.

Well rumor has surfaced again the Edward Furlong will be back as John Connor in T4, he should have been in the 3rd one oh well, I hope they can somehow salvage the series. I want some future war action already.
