Big SiS is giving me 300.00.. help with picking out mountain bike

Trek? Gorilla? Can 300.00 even get me anything worth while from the good companies? I don't know much bout bikes, but I spent some change on a POS one from walmart and got too busy w/ life to ride it... found out almost 2 yrs later it had a bent sprocket and was never able to actually ride it I want one soooo bad. A good one that will last me 4 or 5 yrs. Any bikers here?

Also, lol, arent you near Omaha?

There is a bike store that my friends use that is right near their house. He's bought a couple bikes there and has been really happy with the service. All I know is that it is in some strip mall type area, with I *think* a sushi restaurant near it? Friend says the guy owns most of the strip malls in Omaha...anyway, you probably know the place

I went in last time I was there, and it was a pretty damn nice store.

No idea, id have to talk to him to find out. If you're not local to them, wouldnt worry about it. Just thought you were in Omaha.

check prices online though, might find a cheap one with free shipping or something.

and you are a big guy that is awesome!

I want to go big or go home, but have an insane mortgage payment so I will take what has been given to me so to speak I have to check the local bike shops that carry treks and such.. maybe even craigslist. I saw some BADASS bikes last night for like 1200.00 Oh and today I went to BassProShops and was looking at their Kayaks. Seem really cheap.. blown plastic. The good ones are hella money though.. so I will get a bike for now Hopefully sometime this weekend.

I don't plan on spending a grand on a bike. I would however like to get a kayak .. may do that next spring. I do plan on keeping the bike for a while.

Kona looks to be a good bike brand... pricey but good. I like the looks of their bikes.

hey that's dond's bike

Been looking again.. what is the difference between full suspension and hardtail? Why would I want one over the other? I know full suspension is kinda funny to ride @ first. Found an 820 new for like $290.00 ish. Is that a good price?

From what little I have gathered so far the talk is Trek is kinda stuck in a rut.. haven't put out any new technology and riding the Lance Armstrong wave still. I heard Specialized is reall badass and Cannondale is also very good. Saw a Cannondale disc for a lil over 400.00 online (shipping included) that I may do. We will see. I called one bike store today, gotta go work out, then I will go to a couple just to see what they have.

What about Iron Horse bikes? Saw one @ Dicks sporting goods... wondering if it is worth it. It is 150.00 off.. normally 449.00 and they are selling it for 299.00. It is some metallicy brownish color.

I work with tools and such, I know that if you spend the money generally you will be happy/get more life from the tool. So.. with that thinking I want to get a bike that will do me good. I know a walmart or target bike could do me good.. but I want one that will last and be quality. I saved 6 months for my first skateboard back in the day as a kid.. I didn't go with a cheap 30.00 store bought Nash skateboard.. I saved to 150.00 and got a professional board.. had I not bought that one, I would have never went on skateboarding due to quality and the ability to learn moves.

I can go as high as 450.00. I also saw a diamondback that was REALLY nice. MSRP 449.99.. it was 50.00 off, so 399.99. The seat on that one is REALLY nice compared to the iron horse. I don't know if that is worth $50.00 more though.

My parents bought me a specialized bike when I was a kit, just the base model, back before they had shocks front and rear, and it was like 400 bucks but I've had it for 15 years and the god damn thing is so light that even when I was 10 years old I could pick the frickin thing up with 1 finger, and I beat the crap out of it took everything a bored homeschooled kid with 5 acres could think up

okay this is kinda my choices. I haven't seen anything online that was better than in the store yet...

Giant Rincon $420.00 (from a local bike store)

2008 DiamondBack Response sport $399.99(Dick's Sporting Goods )

Iron Horse Warrior 1.3 $299.99(Dick's Sporting Goods )

or the

Forge Sawback 5xx $319.99(from Targetonline.com )

Or the Trek 4300 $399.99(local bike store) (no disc brakes though can add but will cost $520.00)

So I kinda have to decide. It will come down to reliability.. quality of parts, weight and.... I dunno, guess what ever store has the better warranty. I am leaning toward the Giant. But that and the DiamondBack, and Trek are basically the same price, but Trek doesn't come with the disc brakes.
