Food Mistakes Parents Make

I agree with this some what. I have very strong opinions on child hood obesity. It's a serious problem that needs to be taken care of sooner than later.

meh the interwebbings, and consol gaming is more of an issue IMO. with the metabolism MOST kids have they can burn off the calories and carbs and fat by doing what past generations did, PLAYING OUTSIDE!!!! limit the number of "bad" foods somewhat and get the kids out of the house. durring soccer season i would eat fastfood 3 nights a week., chocolate EVERYTHING and was consuming 4000+ calories a day on days i was less active. i didnt stat gaining weight untill the past 3 years or so and all i do recently is gaming and school work inside. i want to get a basketball hoop er something and start exercising a bit more. i know everyones different with the way their bodies handle food, fat and whatnot but i think its more the lack of exercise over what they eat

i'd have to disagree with some of that. it's definately a combo of both. when i was growing up we had some fast food but it still wasn't quite as prevalent as it is in today's kids diets. and like you said, the fact that kids aren't encouraged to go outside and play or limited on their tv/video game/computer time. parents are waaay too soft on their kids now days. it makes my head hurt.

Thank you so much for that link dond. i'm an incredibly picky eater, and i think had my parents done some of this stuff, i wouldn't be. my parents let me get away with WAY too much. if i didn't like what was for dinner, i got to make a pb&j. they'd buy fattening snacks but hide them so i wouldn't chow down on them (of course i found them). it's not strictly about getting out there and exercising. I was a pretty active kid. I played sports, played outside, but I was a fatty b/c my eating habits sucked. My mom would buy all sorts of "low fat" "no fat" crap that really wasn't good for you anyway, then i'd go to a friend's house where everything there is real and i'd go crazy (w/o looking like a pig). my habits spawned from my mom NOT letting me have things. it got worse when i got a job and a car, b/c then i had money and transportation to go buy that box of ho-hos my mom never ever bought when i was younger. i think that had she bought them and not made them seem like such an enemy (or bought something similar that wasn't so fattening) i wouldn't have wanted it so badly.

i was just talking to a friend at work about something similar and we both agree that it's all about moderation. have that cupcake every once in a while or that bowl of ice cream or whatever. it's those that deprive themselves completely (or in this case get deprived) that are more apt to over indulge.

My son eats salads and all kinds of stuff. He gets to complaining I just do what I have always done and tell him to STFU and it, or else. works, not too much he won't eat now. I never gave him a choice, and made him eat it anyway. call it mean, but he will literally eat almost anything.

I'm sorry but it isn't your mom's fault when your out making a run to get ho'ho's.

my dad works for little debbie...as a kid I had acess to literally a truck load of snack cakes....other than the truck outside there was really no sweets...my mom never was big into baking desserts but can cook like no tom.

I was always encouraged to try stuff as a kid and I did. if I didn't, I had to sit at the table until I did...guess what that meant i HTFU and tried those lima beans....

oh and I eat almost anything....

I eat healthy now for the most part unless I'm with my friend chris who just eats garbage 95% of the time but is absolutely ripped

other than that I stay away from fast food most of the time....

but I can eat....yesterday for breakfeast I had

4 eggs over easy, 2 scrambled 2 pieces of toast, 3 sausage patties, 1/2 cup of grits, and a protein shake....

probably something like 1500 calories at a minimum in that one meal....but the bike ride burned almost 2300 an hour later.

I intake roughly 5500-6500 calories a day.

Chad

I'm not saying it's my mom's fault...but it makes sense that if you forbid something, the kid is gonna do whatever they can to get to it out of shear (sp?) rebellion.

My parents used to make me sit at the table til i ate all that was on my plate. I sat there. I fell asleep at the table one time I was there so long. I'm hardheaded as fuck, and I'd go w/o eating. Finally they just gave up.
