My 1977 John Deere 210 Lawn Tractor Restoration
![]() Here she is, as she sat for about 3 years. Backstory on it is that it was given to us about 6 years ago by a guy my mom works with. Used it for about a year, then it started to become a pain to pull out and was getting a bit worn out so it just sat in the back yard for quite some time. It is a 1977 210 Lawn Tractor with the mower deck attachment. Has a Kohler K241 engine with 10 hp, so it runs right alongside the Sigh ![]() Doesn't run right now, the parking brake is stuck, but as far as we can tell, there isn't anything but surface rust and just cosmetic damage from sitting out all this time. This is 1.5 hours after we FINALLY got it around the front of the house. Since the brake was locked up, we jacked up the rear and put that dolly that you see under the rear wheels, then hooked it to our other rider lawn mower and towed it up front Engineers ftmfw![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Here she is, ready to get torn down ![]() ![]() So far Ive just pulled the battery out and cleaned out 2 wasps nests, one rather large birds nest, and washed it all off. Ill continue to update the thread as progress is made. Id like to keep this pretty cheap, as I just want a lawn mower to take when I move out, and figured this would be a great project to tinker on now that I dont have a sports car. |

I never really did very well, hence this project. Should be...interesting. Pulled the seat off tonight, got the battery out, and have been looking it over. Im going to need to get some WD 40 to soak all the hardware in and lots of surface rust to get rid of. Then Ill probably just use some John Deere green rattle cans to paint it. Should come out pretty well I hope

it's hard to work on outdoorsy stuff if it's humid, your sweat just goes nowhere. dry heat ftw matt don't work on the mower until it's dry heat!!! (but that might be never...)

Little update
Bought some stuff for it today. New coil, points, air filter, oil, and spark plug. Drained the oil, it was all dried up around the drain plug but we broke it free and it flowed pretty well. Smells strongly of gas, so we'll have to look at the carb and free up the float if it is stuck. Otherwise, pretty optimistic. We pulled the plug and sprayed it down with WD-40 and turned it by hand. Has compression and spins pretty smoothly. Pretty stoked thus far. Need to take back the oil filter they sold me that doesn't go on this tractor as its not equipped with one ![]() Next will be putting the new oil in and replacing the electronic stuff and try to start her up. Hopefully tomorrow I will get that accomplished but Im not rushing because Im having fun
