water bill. thats it pretty much. so once a month

Unless of course i need to pay for something big on campus. USF requires all CC and Bank card to be signed on the back and "SEE I.D." doesn't count, and since that will never happen in my lifetime the only way to pay is with check. Fucking university

The only bills I can't pay online are water and my HOA dues, but Suntrust online bill pay writes and mails the checks for me. Haven't written one myself in years.

Why not just sign it? It's not like retailers are obligated to ask for ID even if it says "see id", and the CC/banks cover you for any fraud anyway.

Way back when I used to work retail, I'd look to make sure there was a signature, but that's it.

I'm down to writing 12 checks a year but that can be avoided since my roommate that pays our rent banks where I work, so I can just deposit the money in his acct. Fuck checks.

I still pay bills with checks but thats about it unless something comes up and they wont take anything else. Which does happen with some of my son's school fundraisers and such.

4 years ago on a tubing trip someone broke into 4 of our cars. the ONLY person who didnt have their card raped was my mother in law and she was the only one with "See I.D."

A similar thing happened to my father just a couple years ago and the ONLY card in his wallet with "See I.D." was the only one not raped so given my experiences it works, and works well to keep a card MUCH safer in person to person transactions (especially when written in sharpie. I also dont like it when people with relatively 0 power over certian things try to FORCE their will on others. It's not agianst the law not to have my signiture on it, and unless its used online many people who do take CC's in an oportunistic time will throw away/not try to use a card with "See I.D." written on the back in an everyday use of the card.

Granted i genuinely thank the person when they ask to see it, but dont get all upset when they don't. Like some blue haird old bitches who come through the grocery store line will. :arg:

Also is my preference and perogative

You shouldn't have an issue with stolen cards if you report it stolen like you are supposed to.

You guys might want to check with your banks and see if they can pay bills even if they don't accept electronic payment. I consolidated all my bill paying into my Suntrust account about a year ago (I used to sign in to individual accounts to pay them) and I can set up payees regardless of whether they're electronic or not. I just enter the amount and date on their website and Suntrust prints and mails the check for me. I'm way too lazy to write checks and find stamps and walk to the mailbox.

I'll write a check at church stuff but that's about it. Every once in a while I write a check for a bill, but typically pay online.

Yea any bank with an online bill payment option will allow you to pay anyone. Whether its a business or person or whatever. I have customers that pay their friends through our online bill pay system. It processes it through the ACH system and mails a check out to whoever you are trying to pay. Pretty sweet shit.

I haven't written one for about 8 years. Maybe a cashier's check or money order once in a blue moon, but not personal checks. Billpay rocks: their paper, their stamp, their EDI.

Checks were useful before the clearing act if you needed to purchase something before you were paid. Now pretty much all retailers use electronic remote deposits and before you're out the door the money is already out of your acccount. Infact, processing debit and/or credit transactions can take longer than a check transaction now. We only use them for bills now.
