I've never seen combat, but from what my buddies tell me it happens so fast that that wouldn't even be thought of. I'm a big fan of the M249 when its up and running and keeping it clean. each fire team consists of a R T F A or ready, team fire, assist. ready = point man, team = fire team leader, fire = SAW gunner, and assist = a-gunner and carries extra ammo and an extra barrel for the saw gunner. adopting that would get rid of the SAW, each I don't see a need to do. + its not an open bolt design.
