from what little knowledge I do know about concrete.. as long as there was holes drilled into the slab and rebar into those holes and tied into the new concrete's rebar he should be cool

its all rebar'ed and tied in together so its as strong as it could be. The problem with breaking up and removing the old patio was $. 80sq ft x 6$ was over budget and thats not counting removal / disposal costs of the busted material. I am sure it will crack eventually but hopefully long after we have moved to a dream house.
