key west is so overrated. the upper keys are where its at.

and only 2 hours away.

yeah don't get me wrong its fn I enjoy it everytime I go, buddy's parents have a house down there so i go quite often. but for any outdoors stuff, diving, fishing, the upper keys kick its ass.

ever done the Fast Cat thing down there? we took it from key west to the Tortuga's once, thing was PIMP and hauled ass. 2 hour ride there

That's Pennekamp, BTW Chad.

Awesome area. We usually stay away from the actual Pennekamp dives and stay a little further south in the Islamorada area. I dove the USS Spiegel Grove on our last two trips and absolutely love it.

yeah did it to go snorkling as i didnt/dont have divers license yet when i was 16. but like i said i think big pine is where its at for clear waters and nicer reefs/dive spots, agian just my opinion. for outdoorsy style of vacation upper keys do rock. but party scene/ nightlife. i have yet to see anything that compairs to duval on a friday or sat night anywhere.

yeah I knew i butchered the spelling...lol couldn't find the correct way.

I dove the Spiegel a month after they fucked up the sinking of it, and then dove it again since it was uprighted from Katrina. not a BIG fan of the dive just cause of the shitty currents where its at. and the deep water.

I'll be doing the MS150 bike ride in May w/ Team HP ride from miami to key largo I believe we camp out at Pennekamp and have dinner and what not.

exactly right, and that's the big differences between the keys, and key west.

want to party, head to mile marker 1.

want to fish/dive/snorkel stay north.

+ the drive to key west just sucks lol.

It's the only real wreck I've dove, but I love it. The currents haven't been too bad when I went and once you get down it wasn't a problem. Plenty to see at 100ft too so we never ventured much deeper. They said the sand was around 150, eff that.

I want to start trying some of the dives around West Palm next year, much closer for me than the Keys and I've heard a lot of people say good things about it.

Oh and it was Hurricane Dennis. I bought one of the shirts that say "Upright and Proud" because it made me lol.

I have dove alot in west palm, they are 99% drift dives and alot of fun, don't have to do to much work at all. I can hook you up with the right people to go with out there, let me know. also can hook you up with a KICKASS place to stay, its basically town homes for $60 a night and no one is ever there...except my dad and his wife lol its the only place they stay now when they go. very awesome. and its right on the inter coastal.

there are plenty of wrecks in the gulf. the Sheridan is a good one that comes to mind.

did the drive for first time just after highschool. left clearwater about midnight. fiance (at the time ) slept most of the way. got to big pine JUUUUST before sun-up. and onto keywest about 7:00 ish. i freaking sped like a mofo. drive back was 10 times as bad

but other than that slept, then taken the express the other couple of times... fucking express rocks.


but this place made me freaking LOVE big pine key...
