I just saw this clip and it made me want to make a thread.

Why or why not have it illegal? What/how would it harm if it were legal? What/how would the US benefit from it being legal? What would change if it were legal?

Thought this would be fun. EVERYONE join in the discussion.

but my .02.

Legalize it and impose same/similar regulations and laws that alcohol and cigaretts has attached to them.

Its legal.
Tax the hell out of it. (it'd still be cheaper than it is now)
Outlaw public stonedness(modleing alcohol laws here)
only purchase at or above 18.
go after bootleggers, but home grown for personal use is ok.

It's legal in some parts of some states, and legal to have and grow a few plants. But as you would guess, they have a decent amount of crime and it's not a really ideal place to raise a family.

It'll eventually get legalized but not until people can control themselves with it and until the government fixes more important issues than pot. They would also have to dilude it a whole bunch as well, liquor will make you a worthless fuck after a while of drinking your life away, but pot will make you a worthless fuck and a potential addict after just a couple times of useing it.

We as consumers of it would have to come a long way to proveing that we could handle it.

legal in some states and manicupalities, but federally illegal. so if the feds wanted you they could go to where its legal by the municipality localy and charge you federally. hence still illegal. which is BS, but it's illegal everywhere even if certian parts of cali wanna say "hey its legal here" big brother still has powars to go and get you anyways...

I didn't think there was anywhere in the US where it was legal. It's decriminalized in several places, but I've never heard of any businesses selling it outside medical use.

PS: And pot is more likely to make you an addict than alcohol or cigarettes? That'd be news to me.

well BRENT watch teh farq'n vid.. you may learn something. AND it is kinda the basis for this thread. Alot of what they said in it is absolutely true, well I like the vid so I would say all of what they say is true, other than the few people.. FEW people who said it is not right and should be illegal.

Somewhere in Northern California IIRC, I watched a story about the Marijuana industry in America on MSNBC or one of those channels a few months back.

I remember them talking to a guy who grew it and sold it, he compared it to selling stocks. He also said that the town allows for every citizen to have and grow a maximum of 3 plants.
Later on in the show, they took you to some local cafes that sold it and allowed you to consume it there. They sold it in with food and drinks and aswell as ready to smoke.

If I can find it i'll post it.

humboldt county california you can legally own a couple plants.. I know no more than that. THAT and with this is always a good constitutional lesson. States are responsible for their own jurisdiction, or area. Federal government legally doesn't have the power to tell the individual state what to do. That is why the gov of texas got pissed that the fed sent in federal troops to texas after hurricane katrina. Basically the federal gov is just there to act as a body that works WITH the states and decides on stuff nationally.. not locally or even FOR that state, the local and state governments do that. so...

Oh and texas if caught with < 2 ounces you get a misdemeanor.

the county might let you have 2 plants, but that doesn't mean crap b/c its a fedral drug law, so if the feds come in your fucked.

I vote legalize and tax makes sense all around the board, no brainer

I'd beg to differ...I've seen studies suggesting that after 1 week of no use your body returns to normal pre-pothead functionality with no withdrawl symptoms or other associated problems like those faced by recovering drug/alcoholics.

They also do commonly have DEA raids on "legal" selling operations in Cali and other areas (I believe Denver??). Obama supposedly said he would try put a damper on DEA raids on places like this but there still have been a few DEA raids on legal dispensaries around the country.
