2009 Chevrolet Corvette Z07
Source: www.automobilemag.com
![]() If the thought of the new 500-hp Ford Shelby GT500 Mustang hedging in on the 505-hp Corvette Z06's territory raises your blood pressure, don't despair: Corvette chief engineer Tom Wallace has a 650-hp trick up his sleeve. A new super Corvette will build on the Z06's 7.0-liter LS7 V-8 that was developed in sync with the Corvette C6.R Le Mans racer. For this limited-production Vette, which might be called the Z07, Chevy will increase the LS7's displacement and bolt on a supercharger to bump output by 145 hp. The Z07, due in 2008, will be further differentiated from the Z06 by the use of more carbon-fiber body panels and a huge hood vent aimed at killing front-end lift. In true Corvette style, Chevy will undercut competitors by pricing the Z07 at about $100,000. This Corvette has been known within GM as the Blue Devil, after the mascot of GM CEO Rick Wagoner's alma mater, Duke, and also as the Sting Ray, but we think they'll go with Z07, or maybe Z06.R. With General Motors not providing any official information on the upcoming uber-Vette, rumors continue to fly around the automotive world. Automobile Magazine weighs in with its two cents, stating that the so-called "Blue Devil" will actually carry the significantly less satanic moniker of Z07 - or maybe Z06.R (with the "R" presumably standing for "Really hazardous to your driving record"). That seems somewhat more clumsy than the Sting Ray or Super Sport/SS names that we've heard tossed around, but would fit in with GM's long history of three-digit alphanumeric codes. The 650 HP 6.2L supercharged GenIV V8 looks to be housed under a huge air duct, which is likely required by the addition of a air-to-water intercooler unit. Serious speed requires the shedding of serious heat, and so the car has also grown vents along the top and rear of the front fenders, and a NACA duct has appeared on the top of the rear quarter panels. Hit the link to see the full spy shot - we're anxious to hear what you think, as we're already in love. The supercar is said to be on its way in 2008 as a 2009 model (giving us two more years to make inaccurate predictions), and will carry a price tag of around $100K. Given the Z06's superlative performance, we don't doubt for a moment that that Z07 will provide the biggest bang for the buck in its market segment. |

When they put their paws on the fence, it means take them from the rear.

Me and my friends have been been too busy sunbathing off the southern coast of St. Bart's with spider monkeys for the past two weeks, tripping on acid. Changed our whole perspective on shit...so you can Dere-lick my balls cap-i-tan
|
No way a blown V8 would sit under that hood as-is. That duct will take out probably 30% of current engine space and the LS7 is stuffed in there as is.

Why do they call a Corvette a supercar? It ISN'T a supercar, it's a sports car.
All Ford has to do is make a SVT/FR GT with a new $200 pulley and will be easy competition. Or unleash the Shelby Roadster

Or do nothing and laugh at GM for sinking further into debt as this car will make them no money.

that roadster if it was actually built in the form it was shown in would own nearly everything out there... especially if they built a coupe version of it.

I still don't see what the big deal about the Corvettes are. I may just have my head up my ass but in the end, it's still a Chevy.

Who is smarter and has a better marketing plan? Ford: Little less power from the factory but considerably cheaper than the Chevy/Dodge. HUGE aftermarket product lines including their own line of parts. Chevy: High power but higher price. Significantly smaller aftermarket product lines. I don't think there is any debate the 5.0L aftermarket is by far king at this point. I think Ford intended on the 4.6L crew jumping on board but the 4.6L had a lot of hurdles that slowed the climb. It's steadily increasing but it's just not there right now. Also, I'm referring strictly to the Mustangs, Camaros, and TAs from the 90s to present day. I'm not including big blocks and things that weren't what you might consider factory; bolt-ons, power adders, etc.

I'm starting to like them more and more. (Hate to stereotype) If you're 30+ and making nice money, it's a sweet deal. A car that handles nice, brakes good, is fast, and nicely priced. Looks, imho, are sexy too. And you can tour with it too. I'd rock one.
