New Tech (with poll)
look a pole!!!!
![]() ANYWAY... i will more than likely have a few bucks to spend towards the end of this summer and want to blow it on some new tech. before i discovered my laptop battery was fubar i was going to pick up a netbook, something comperable to this lil' guy. (although instore i could get him for $250 HP - Mini Netbook with Intel® Atom Processor N270 - 1116NR i haven't done a WHOLE lot of research but from what i have sceen i could get one for under 300 that has a good ammount of storage space (dont really need it anyways) and is fast enough to surf the net and do word processing with minor online java games and online movies/video abilities as well (thinking blockbuster online/netflix) i talked to the guy at best buy and he said for those uses the HP i was looking at wouldn't have a problem handling it. but now i need to decided if i want my laptop to be able to be away from a wall and look at getting a new battery for IT (roughly $100). My current HP 17" laptop is litteraly 4 times the machine that my old ass desktop is. it has twice the storage space, twice the processor speed and either exacly the same RAM or 1.5 times the RAM as my shitty desktop. so do i a. buy a netbook for school companion/light online/computer duties and just use my laptop and current 19" 720P monitor thats practically brand new as it is as my home PC with dual monitor setup b. buy a new 9 cell battery for the laptop and a new 23" HD monitor for around $160ish and MAYBE get some added goodies for the desktop and run the 19" and 23" dual monitors off the desktop and continue to use laptop as school companion.

You sure as hell won't be playing any new school games on that old ass PIII.
![]() But this should solve your floppy issues (no homo): Newegg.com - BYTECC Black 1.44/0.72/1.25 MB 3.5" External USB Floppy Drive Model BT-144 - Floppy Drives I hate netbooks with a fiery burning passion. To get a DECENT netbook with XP you're pushing $400 and for $600-$700 you can get a hell of a laptop with more memory, a bigger hard drive, a real processor, a decent keyboard, etc etc. I helped a friend of mine spec out a Dell Studio 15 he's getting as a graduation present and for $700 he's getting something that will easily last him through college vs some toy netbook that you might get a year out of. Actually, this is the one he ended up getting (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1218036667529) and it's not even that awesome of a deal but such a better investment than a netbook.

OK my Laptop has only one 15 pin Monitor port and i now have final confirmation i will be getting the second 19" monitor as jen JUST ordered that Samsung 23" for her desk.
heres what i would like to do and i need to know from joo guise what all i need hardware wise to get it to work... I want to run the two 19" LCD's along with the 17" display my laptop has. The only hinderance i see at the moment is that Vista's software supports atleast 10 monitors but the latop has only one 15 pin port. So, can I: A: buy a 7 dollar splitter that goes from a Male 15 pin to two females and still have the laptop recognize there are two distinct monitors on it (honestly given the knowledge i do i have i feel this wouldnt work, and all it would produce is 2 clone monitors instead of 3 distinctly different ones as the computer would just recognize the two 19"ers as a single unit.) B: See if they make a 15 pin to USB adapter and run the second monitor off one of the 6 USB ports this mafugger has... (seems like the most likely way to get the software to recognize two distinct monitors and allow me to configure as such. Tha is IF such a pice exists) C: some other option you TRUELY computer savvy peeps have that i dont know about. I am open to suggest so please fire away...

B is your only option. But you have to be careful about the supported resolutions.
I'm assuming your 19" monitors use 1440x900 (widescreen) or 1280x1024 resolution, in which case this would work: Newegg.com - eVGA UV Plus USB VGA Display Port 100-U2-UV12-A1 USB 2.0 Interface - TV Tuners & Video Devices If you ever wanted to switch to larger screens like 22" widescreens that use 1680x1050, that adapter wouldn't run them. But the adapters that do are about twice the price.

figured B was only option, but why wouldn't just any 15 pin to USB adaptor work,
i dont understand why my monitor has a 15 pin serial and i can't just plug it in to a 5 dollar 15 pin to USB adapter.

TRITTON SEE2 USB 2.0 VGA MONITOR ADAPTER DUAL DISPLAY - eBay (item 370207813130 end time Jun-03-09 15:47:13 PDT) ![]() i dunno i just see all these joystick adapters for like 5 bucks total and wonder why does a monitor one have to be 10 to 20 times that price i just dont understand the technology behind it and would like too...

Serial and joystick is 9 pin, not 15. And it's not just an adapter, it's actually a USB video card. And these aren't meant for gaming.
The one you linked will work. But it retails for $70, so the bidding is liable to go over $30 + shipping, which makes it more than the evga one.

Do your 19" monitors have a DVI input? Because your laptop has HDMI out...

The monitors don't care. I'm not sure whether your laptop would support running the internal display, VGA and HDMI all at the same time, though.

but it didn't show "how" so right now im trying to figure out what way is the cheapest rout to run less than the said 10 monitors...
